Sealed product is exciting because anything could be inside. That booster box might hold the chase card, the alternate art, the monster hit, the card that makes you yell loud enough to concern the neighbors. But sealed product also has a darker side: sometimes the box contains sadness, bulk, and one holo you already own four times.
Singles are the practical choice. You know exactly what you are getting. No pack-ripping heartbreak. No pile of duplicates. No pretending reverse holos are “basically hits.” Buying singles is usually the smarter way to build a focused collection, especially if you are chasing specific cards.
But ripping packs is not only about efficiency. It is entertainment. It is suspense. It is the tiny cardboard slot machine we all pretend we have completely under control. The best collectors usually find a mix: buy singles for serious goals, open sealed product for fun, and keep a few sealed pieces tucked away if they fit the collection.
In other words, rip responsibly. Buy intentionally. And never underestimate how quickly “one pack for fun” becomes “well, now the box is already open.”
